Witchhazel is a unique plant that could be a small tree or shrub. The bark, leaves, twigs is used in astringent lotions and toilet water. American Witchhazel is often multi-trunked. This tree can reach from 10 – 15 feet tall but can reach higher heights and 15 to 20 feet wide. This tree/shrub grows at a medium rate of 13 – 24” per year. Yellow slender petals appear in the fall and will linger for some time after the leaf falls. Peal green leaves will turn a lovely gold. Against the smooth gray bark the fragrant petals become brilliant yellow in color. This small irregular, rounded shaped tree will attract the birds and will grow in full sun to part shade.
