Gardenia Veitchii (Gardenia jasminoides ‘Veitchii’) is an evergreen shrub with shiny lace-shaped dark green leaves and deliciously scented white flowers that make it one of the most popular tropical plants. In bloom from late spring through early fall, they make a splendid accent or specimen plant. They thrive as a bush, in warm humid conditions above 60 degrees. In colder climates, they are a wonderful container plant that will flower indoors in late spring and summer with proper care. They prefer bright direct light for 6 hours a day in cooler climates and bright indirect morning light in warmer climates. They love moisture and humidity and should be misted with filtered water and kept over a small tray of water filled with pebbles so that their roots do not sit in the water. In warm weather keep the soil constantly moist but not wet and do not allow them to sit in water. During the growing and flowering season feed monthly with a little bit of weak liquid fertilizer. Gardenia Veitchii is purposefully root-bound to ensure longer blooming, keep them in a smaller container when potting them up. Use a loose acidic potting medium that retains moisture but drains well. Shipping and handling can be very tough on live plants so please be sure to open and check your plant right away.
