The fabric may have a distinct scent that can be removed with a few simple steps. Step 1: Air out the fabric for a few hours outside in a dry, well-ventilated area. Step 2: Sprinkle baking soda on the burlap and let it sit for an hour. After an hour, shake out the fabric to remove the baking soda. Step 3: If the smell is still lingering, soak the burlap in white vinegar for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, rinse it off with water and lay it out to dry.
