It is also removable from the shaft so that disks can be cut with no middle hole - Unscrew the bolt head on the top that you hammer on to cut, slide off the rubber grip, and remove the Allen socket screw to allow the spring-loaded center pin to slide out. The inside of the cutter is straight while the outside is tapered. Accepted thickness depends on the material - Foam can be cut about 3/8-inch thick while stiff, metal, or plastic materials can be cut about 1/16-inch thick.
