Saint Apollonia was born in the thirdcentury and lived in Alexandria, Egypt. She spent her entire life preaching the wordof God and risked persecution for her faith.

In 249 AD, Saint Apollonia was finallycaptured and brought before a pagan courtto be tried. When the judge asked her name, she courageously replied, "I am a Christianand I love and serve the true God."Saint Apollonia's persecutors became enragedand turned to torture. She stood firm in herfaith and refused to give up during the painfulordeal of having her teeth smashed with pincersand then knocked out. The persecutors thentold her that if she did not deny Jesus, she would be thrown into a raging fire.Rather than deny her faith in Jesus, shejumped into the burning fire herself. When thepagans saw how heroic she was, many were converted to Christianity.

Saint Apollonia is recognized todayas the patroness of those who suffer fromdental disease or toothaches. Her feast day is February 9th.

Saint Apollonia, Pray for Us.
