Harvesting Guide:
The harvesting time for cabbages depends on the variety and when they were planted. Summer cabbages are harvested during the warmest months, while hardy winter cabbages are harvested after the arrival of frosts. Spring cabbages that overwinter are harvested in the following spring. Harvest the cabbages when the heads reach the desired size and are firm. Be cautious, as mature heads left on the stem may split.

Growing Instructions:
FOR OUTDOOR PLANTING:
Select a location with full sun and well-drained soil. Ensure all frost risks have passed before planting. Sow the cabbage seeds 1/2 inch deep and space them 12 to 18 inches apart in the soil. Each row of organic vegetable seeds should have a spacing of at least 30 to 36 inches. Firmly cover and press the soil over the seeds, keeping it moist until germination occurs in approximately 7 to 10 days. Water the plants when the soil becomes dry about 5cm below the surface (check by lightly scratching the soil with your finger). Water deeply in the early morning or late afternoon and avoiding wetting.

STARTING EARLY INDOORS:
For an early or more reliable start, sow cabbage seeds in a greenhouse or on a bright windowsill during spring and summer. Timing may vary depending on the variety, so refer to the seed packets for specific instructions. Indoor sowing protects cabbages from slugs, snails, and can reduce the impact of clubroot if present in the soil. Sow cabbage seeds 2cm (¾in) deep, preferably in modular trays to minimize root disturbance during transplanting. The seeds should germinate within a couple of weeks. After around five weeks, move the young cabbage plants outdoors.
