On January 28, 1997 in Washington DC; the USPS honored the nation's first black brigadier general, Benjamin O. Davis, as the 20th addition to the Black Heritage stamp series. Davis began his 50 years with U.S. Army as a private, and rose through the ranks due to his distinguished service. In doing so, Davis was a driving force in the integration of America's armed forces.
