Mantz was a noted air racing pilot, movie stunt pilot and consultant from the late 1930s until his death in the mid-1960s. He gained fame on two stages: Hollywood and in air races. Cochran was a pioneer American aviator, considered to be one of the most gifted racing pilots of her generation. She was appointed director of women's flight training for the United States in 1942, supervising the training of more than one thousand women pilots Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas.
